Bergen Engines has signed an agreement to supply CGGC-UNPOWER with a total capacity of 1GW

Bergen Engines, formerly known as Rolls-Royce, has signed an agreement with Chinese infrastructure supplier CGGC-UNPOWER, to supply 80 of its largest generating units, with a unit capacity of 12.5MW, fitted with Marelli Motori generators to Nigerian power utility Malatex.

In the first instance, 16 Bergen Engines B36:45V20AG gas-fired generator sets, totalling 200MW, will be delivered to Akwa Ibom State. Delivery is scheduled for early 2024. Subsequent 4 phases, each with a capacity of 200 MW are planned to be gradually commissioned until December 2026.

The concept of phasing up to 1GW of load into Nigeria's grid was originally put forward by Bergen Engines in 2020 when the company was owned by Rolls-Royce.

Bergen Engines' modular solution has been utilised on numerous projects up to 350MW in many countries and provides a rapid build-out of the required power infrastructure. Power plants are easily scalable by simply adding units, making the Bergen Engines solution a very attractive proposition compared to less flexible alternatives.
